Another worthy charity receives Usborne Books
4th June 2018
One of the most important influences for success in life is the availability of books in the hands of children from birth on. This spring, we are making donations across the country to ensure all children have access to Usborne Books.

When I found out that I had a chance to donate a crate of Usborne Book seconds to a charity of my choice, I was very excited! But then came the task of choosing that one special place where I could hope to make a difference. It wasn’t long before my girlfriend Christel Chow connected me with Melissa Melville at Patrick Airlie!
Patrick Airlie is a school in Calgary, Alberta, where many families work so hard just to meet basic needs, that luxuries such as buying new books are often beyond their means. For the library, classrooms and even for student shelves at home, the school welcomes book donations that can enrich student learning.
And this school is a multicultural gem, with children from many cultures including high ratios of First Nations, Metis and refugee families. After chatting with Melissa, I felt that this was a great opportunity to help. I contacted Usborne head office and they agreed this sounded like the perfect home for these lovely books!
Being an Usborne Books Consultant and an educator myself, I know firsthand that the availability of good books in the hands of children, and the time you can spend reading together, can be an important influence for their success in life.
So, Melissa and I made a plan, and on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, I delivered stacks of books to the children and families of Patrick Airlie. The children were ecstatic! So many little hands eager to see inside the crate, and then sit and share.
Some books will stay in the school library for many to share, and some will go directly to the families that could really use something special to read at home. Not much brings me more joy than watching children get excited over sifting through piles of books and then finding just the one to pull out and show me, so that we can enjoy it together! This is why I love Usborne and their amazing books and the positive experiences that carry forward!
Thank you Usborne! Thank you, Melissa and Patrick Airlie!
